Curriculum Intent Statement
Design and Technology offers a creative, stimulating, robust and engaging curriculum that will develop learner’s life skills, confidence and problem solving capability, transferable into many day-to-day situations they will face in adulthood.
The technology department comprises of teaching in resistant materials, textiles and food and nutrition. The structure of all technology subjects are designed to equip and support learners of mixed abilities to embrace opportunities putting theory into practice.
Learners will develop foundations for independent living that are useful in school, into university and beyond. They will develop skills such as food preparation and balancing diets, DIY and cost-saving labour work, as well as repair and making of clothing and textile garments.
The curriculum is taught in progressive stages ensuring that skills and knowledge gained in each year is consolidated and developed further the following year. Design and Technology is an inclusive subject that is accessible for learners of all abilities and notably, students that struggle academically can often excel creatively.
There are cross curriculum links with science, computing and mathematics as well as environmental education and contemporary learning which equips learners to be engaged in and considerate of the world around them.
